2024 State Scholastic Chess Championship Results

The 2024 Alabama State Scholastic Chess Championship was held March 23rd & 24th in Pike Road, Alabama.

Twenty-three MCCL members traveled to Pike Road to compete! Pike Road Elementary and Rasberry Chess Academy played host for the annual event run by the Alabama Chess Federation.


Several Madison Schools won top team awards in their sections at the State Scholastic. Bob Jones High School was the 1st Place Team in the High School Championship section! (Pictured: Xavier Bruni, Andrew Yang, Steven Pan, Nirvana Rajbhandari, Aadi Saxena, and Jacob New)


Xavier Bruni was named High School State Champion, Steven Pan finished 3rd in the section, and Andrew Yang and Jacob New tied for 5th place in the section. Aadi Saxena finished 8th and Nirvana Rajbhandari finished 9th.

Individually, Sophia Jerez of Journey Middle School finished 3rd in the section.


The Rainbow Elementary School team of Annabelle Hsu and Dennis Lenski was the 1st Place Team in the Elementary Championship section!

Individually, Esteban Jerez of Horizon Elementary finished 2nd in the Elementary Championship section. Dennis Lenski finished tied for 2nd, and Annabelle Hsu finished in 6th place.


And the Mill Creek Elementary School team of Brandon Edmondson and Ananth Ravishekar was the 1st Place Team in the Primary Championship section!


Individually, Ananth Ravishekar finished 2nd in the Primary Championship section, Milan Malak (Heritage Elementary) finished tied for 2nd, and Brandon Edmondson finished in 5th place.


Congratulations to MCCL member Grattan O'Neill who finished 3rd in the High School Under 1300 section!


Congratulations to Abigail Barbre (Discovery Middle School) and Daksh Sunil (Liberty Middle School) who both finished tied for 5th place in the Middle School Under 1100 section!


And congratulations to Christopher Chan (Columbia Elementary) who finished 2nd in the Elementary Under 700 section.


Congratulations to Austin Pullum (Rainbow Elementary) who finished tied for 1st place in the Primary Under 400 section!


And, finally, we want to congratulate these newly crowned State Champions (even though, sadly, they are not members of Madison City Chess League): Primary State Champion Alandra Jackson (Lee Scott Academy - Auburn), Elementary State Champion Arush Batchu (Joseph Bruno Montessori Academy), and Middle School State Champion Saikarunya Kesireddy (Alabama School of Fine Arts)! They played some really good chess this weekend.
