Back To School Chess Events

Get ready chess kids!  There are numerous things for you to do to get back into the swing of playing chess right before school starts.

Summer Knights Chess Tournament – Saturday July 25th – Rainbow Elementary

Whether you are a first-time tournament player or an experienced one, this tournament is just for you!  Both rated and non-rated sections are available.  If you participated in the Summer Knights Chess Camp earlier in the week, this is the perfect way for you to practice the skills you learned. MCCL Bughouse Night – Monday July 27th – 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. – Madison YMCA

MCCL meets every Monday night at the Hogan Family YMCA in Madison from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. except for holidays and special occasions.  You can learn more about our weekly meetings and see our meeting calendar here.  Our last summer meeting is Bughouse Night for members only.  It is easy to join MCCL—learn more here.  We have been practicing Bughouse chess all month to get ready for the ultimate Bughouse tournament Monday July 27th.

Girls Chess Night at Madison Taziki’s – Tuesday July 28th at 6-7:30 p.M.

Girls Chess Night started this summer at Taziki’s, and it has been a big success.  Bring your chess sets and play chess with other girls in the area.  Tonight’s special guest is Mayor Troy Trulock who will have a special announcement to make.  Don’t be late.  Keep up with all the latest on Girls Chess Night here.

August 1st – Movie Day at the Library – Brooklyn Castle at 2-4 p.m.

 

Join us for Movie Day at the Madison Library.  “Brooklyn Castle” is a 2012 documentary about the storied junior high chess team at Brooklyn IS318, a New York public school serving mostly students who live below the poverty line, as it competes in a number of national chess tournaments. This documentary is a current and true depiction of team tournament play at its highest level in the United States.

 

 

August 3rd – Open House at all Madison Elementary Schools – No MCCL Tonight

Be sure to join your school chess club at Open House.  Because Open House at all elementary schools in Madison is on a Monday night, MCCL will not meet at the YMCA on August 3rd.

 

 

August 4th – ChessKid Night

The first Tuesday of the month means one thing—ChessKid Night!  Log on to chesskid.com at 6 p.m. from wherever you are and play Fast Chess games with other kids from Madison.  Learn more here.

 

 

August 4th – MCCL Spirit Night at Madison Taziki’s from 5-8 p.m.

Who wants to cook the night before school starts?  NOBODY!.  So come to Taziki’s at 105 Brookridge Drive in Madison.  This is the first Madison City Chess League Spirit Night, and Taziki’s will donate 10% of their sales to MCCL.  Be sure to tell the person at the counter that you are there to support MCCL when you place your order.

Since it is also ChessKid night, bring your iPads or tablets and log on to play chess while you eat.

 

 

August 5th – First Day of School


August 10th – MCCL resumes at the YMCA at 6:30 p.M.

August 29, 2015 - MCS Fall Scholars Tournament

Students enrolled in Madison City Schools are eligible to register for the MCS Fall Scholars Tournament.  The Championship section for students rated above 900 is also the first qualifier for the City Scholastic Chess Championship in March 2016.  Both Rated and Non-rated sections are available.  There will be no onsite registration--must pre-register.  Entry Deadline: Online entry by August 26, 2015.  Mail-in entries postmarked by August 21, 2015.
