MCCL Team Challenge
MCCL Team Challenge
The Madison City Chess League is introducing a new program to help our school teams prepare for the upcoming State Scholastic Team Championship to be held at Bob Jones High School in March by scheduling a series of team matches between 4-person teams from Madison schools. Not everyone on a school team will be named to a team for the MCCL Team Challenge. The Coach and Team Sponsor will select teams from each school. It is an honor to be selected for either the Varsity or Junior Varsity challenge, so each team member must commit to compete on the designated dates in the schedule. It is recommended that each team name an alternate in case someone becomes sick at the last minute and cannot compete.
The games for the MCCL Team Challenge will not be rated, but intended to give our kids the opportunity to practice their team playing skills in advance of the state championship. There is no limit to the number of teams a school can enter in the MCCL Team Challenge. There is no cost to participate. The more opportunities students have to play over the board applying tournament rules, the better prepared they will be.
Guidelines and Schedule
Varsity (K-12) – School teams with 4 students whose
team average rating is 1000 or above

Junior Varsity (K-12) – School teams with 4 students whose
team average rating is below 1000.

State Scholastic Team Championship |
Rated team
tournaments are highlighted
in yellow. (Teams for rated
tournaments can and probably will be different from teams designated for the
MCCL Team Challenge.)
We are taking our team preparation for the State Scholastic Chess Championship to the next level. We hope to see multiple 4-person teams from each school take advantage of this free opportunity for additional training.
