January Chess Tournaments--Register Now!
MCCL plans three chess tournaments in the month of January as we prepare for the State Scholastic Chess Championship. The more tournaments your child can participate in, the better prepared they will be for State. Read more about each tournament below. They each offer something different for competitive chess players. Click on the title of each tournament for a direct link to register. Be sure to update your USCF memberships before you register for the tournament.
Sunday Jan. 8, 2017 (1:30-4:30 p.m.)
Game: 5 minutes/ No delay
6 rounds/ double swiss
Fee: $20
Membership: USCF membership required; affects blitz rating only.

Winter Knights Tournament
Saturday Jan. 14, 2017
Fee: $20/Both Rated and Non-Rated Sections
Game: Rated sections:4 rounds with 60 minutes/5 second delay; Non-rated sections: 5 rounds with 30 minutes/5 second delay
Membership: USCF membership required for Rated sections only

Round Times: Saturday - Rated Sections: 9:00–12:00–2:30-5:00, Time Control - G/60;d5
Non-Rated Sections: 9:30 - 11:00 - 12:30 - 2:00 - 3:30, Time Control - G/30;d5
Awards and Trophies
Rated: Individual Trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd; Individual Medals for 4th, 5th, 6th and Top Female in each section.
Non-Rated: Individual Medals for 1st-3rd and Top Female in each section.
Special Awards
In order to qualify for special awards listed below, the player must be a member in good standing of a chess club/team and reside in Madison.
Each rated section of the 2017 Winter Knights Scholastic Chess Tournament is a qualifier for the 2017 Madison City Scholastic Chess Championship. The top two players from each grade bracket (K-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-12) will be invited to participate in the City Championship. For more information about the City Championship, click here.
