Congratulations City Chess Champions!

Congratulations to our 2021 City Chess Champions! This year's City Chess Championship was held online on ChessKid.com and was a Blitz tournament where kids have 5 minutes per side to complete their moves. The Tournament was sponsored by Systems Products and Solutions Inc. and enabled the 1st place winners to receive a cash prize in grade-level sections. Cash awards for K-2nd grades was $50, and cash awards for 3rd-12th grades was $100. Medals were awarded to the top 3 in each grade level.

During the City Council meeting on May 10th, SPS Inc CEO Nilmini Thompson recognized the 1st place grade level winners and gave each of them a water bottle with some candy inside. Ms. Thompson also presented MCCL with a Grandmaster Level donation for the 2021 year! We are so grateful to her constant support of our chess league and this tournament that began in 2016. Madison is the only city in the State of Alabama that hosts a grade-level chess championship.
