MCCL Hosts 2021 All Girls State Chess Championship

MCCL is excited to host the 2021 All-Girls State Chess Championship which moves to an online format on February 20, 2021. Last year MCCL hosted a record setting All-Girls state championship event with 52 girls competing in three section: K-3, K-6 and K-12. That event, also held in February, was the last in-person state chess championship event that the Alabama Chess Federation was able to hold before the pandemic hit.

While the pandemic has certainly hampered our ability to gather to play over-the-board this school year, there has also been a huge increase in online chess players. We hope this online format will allow us to continue to grow participation in this event for female scholastic players in Alabama.

Players will need to set up a ChessKid.com account if they do not already have one in order to play and share their username with tournament organizers when they register. These accounts can be set up for free or with a paid subscription. Results will not be final until tournament directors can run a fair play analysis on all games played and validate the results.

Further tournament details can be found below or by visiting the Madison City Chess League webpage. Many thanks to State Senator Arthur Orr who continues to support and sponsor this event. Register hereThe early registration deadline is Friday February 12th.
